Many teachers, schools, and arts programs benefit from knowing the different ways the arts can be present in schools. Without making a distinction, opportunities can be missed, programs can lack clarity, or the arts can seem like something too unwieldy to incorporate. Making a distinction among the approaches can help narrow or focus objectives as well as help educators select the most appropriate approach based on their objectives. Ultimately, students are best served when all three variations Enhanced Curriculum, and Arts Integrated Curriculum

Over the years researchers have found the necessity to develop theories of behavior that are specific to family settings. These theories have been developed by people with a variety of areas of emphasis, from family therapists to gerontologists to child development specialists. In this chapter we will briefly discuss six such theories: Bioecological Model, Family Systems, Functionalism, Conflict Theory, Symbolic Interactionism, and Psychological Perspectives.

We hope this text is a guide and resource in building awareness, knowledge and skills as a current or future educators. We also want to thank the previous authors for their contribution and allowing us a starting point to enhance the original text. The chapters are organized with learning objectives, embedded terms and definitions, critical reflection and practical application of the content and topics.

This text is a presentation of how and why children grow, develop, and learn. We will look at how we change physically over time from conception through adolescence. We examine cognitive change, or how our ability to think and remember changes over the first 20 years or so of life. And we will look at how our emotions, psychological state, and social relationships change throughout childhood and adolescence.

The purpose of this book is to evidence through explanation and ensuing examples that IEP instruction and assessment for students with mild disabilities can transcend every level in the cognitive domain in every subject matter area, as well as in the daily living skills and employability training areas. Moreover, this vertical progression is highly relevant to educators because it illustrates that there is no reason to confine such instruction and assessment to lower-level thought processes. Nevertheless, the purpose of the book is not to articulate the unified development of IEP instruction per se, but rather to explain and exemplify the design and assessment of IEP instruction for students with mild disabilities throughout the entire cognitive domain in the four major content areas and in the areas of daily living skills and employability training. As a result, this book will provide educators with the expertise to design and assess IEP instruction for students with mild disabilities that will equip them to achieve their full potential.

This open textbook was the result of a remix of pre-existing open materials collected and reviewed by Molly Zhou and David Brown. Learning theories covered include the theories of Piaget, Bandura, Vygotsky, Kohlberg, Dewey, Bronfenbrenner, Eriksen, Gardner, Bloom, and Maslow.

This text is an introductory overview of conventional educational psychology for teacher education. The first half of the book focuses on broader questions and principles taken from psychology per se, and the second half focuses on somewhat more practical issues of teaching. However, the division between “theory” and “practice” is only approximate; all parts of the book draw on research, theory, and practical wisdom wherever appropriate.

Pre-service teachers require a strong foundation that includes an understanding of the student’s motivation for becoming a teacher, reflection on the ethics of an educator, awareness of and identification of their own philosophies of education, and an understanding of twenty-first-century skills and literacies.
