Getting Started with Perplexity
The Perplexity.ai tool doesn't require a login to use, and combines search output with various underlying models. Perplexity is designed to be good at Academic Research, which may make it an excellent fit for OER content.
- To begin, visit perplexity.ai from a web browser.
- Here, you can access the tool without logging into or creating an account.
- You can choose to create an account (which enables features like a conversation library and access to the latest AI models).
- An account requires an email address.
- When logged in, you can access previous conversations, attach files to conversations, and narrow your conversation focus based on presets (Academic, Writing, YouTube, Reddit, Wolfram/Alpha, or All.
- The pro-version, Perplexity Copilot, which includes access to the live web-based research, can be turned on and off in the conversation (the free version of Perplexity includes five Copilot queries every four hours.
Perplexity offers both free and paid versions. With the paid pro-version, you can choose the AI model you want to use (OpenAI’s GPT-4, Anthropic’s Claude 2.1, or Perplexity’s Experimental 70b), as well as ask Perplexity to rewrite an AI-generated answer using a different AI model.
