MVC Library's OneSearch

OneSearch's AI Research Assistant tool

What is AI Research Assistant?

The AI Research Assistant is an artificial intelligence driven research support tool which helps users find, explore, and summarize reliable and relevant resources and ideas. When a question to the Research Assistant it looks at the resources that are available within the library and finds and summarizes the top results. From this summary and results that it provides you, you can get an overview of the results of your research question and to dive in deeper to answering your research question.

Overview of what the AI Research Assistant tool offers:

  • Guided research assistance - provides brief answers to research questions by summarizing information from reliable academic sources available in the library's catalog and databases.
  • Source recommendations - suggests relevant sources like books, journal articles, and other materials available through the library.
  • Summaries - offers high-level summaries or overviews of certain topics, helping students understand the basics and context on their topic.
  • Information discovery - helps with finding connections between different concepts or ideas, encouraging students to explore related topics and refine their research questions.

What the AI Research Assistant won't do:

  • It won’t write your paper for you - it can help you with research and ideas, but it won't write essays, assignments, or big projects for you.
  • It won’t do your thinking for you - It can guide you or help explain things, but your own critical thinking, analysis, and ideas are what matter most in your work.
  • It won’t replace real sources - This tool can help you find sources or summarize information, but you should always read and cite the original source, not the tool’s response.
